The Paddle
The IOS Invitational is NOT a race, but rather a charity team challenge that benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Hampshire.
This year’s paddle to the Isles of Shoals will begin, and end at Pirate’s Cove Beach in Rye, NH. All paddlers are expected to arrive on the beach by no later than 5:00 am and attend a mandatory safety meeting at 5:30 am.
After the safety meeting, all paddlers will gather their gear and prepare to depart for the shoals. To avoid unpleasant paddle conditions that typically develop by mid-morning (i.e. WIND!!!), all paddlers will participate in a uniform start at 6:00 am.
Once paddling, all participants will have 2 hours and 15 minutes to reach the dock at Gosport Harbor on Star Island. Paddlers who do not make it to Star Island by 8:15 am, the designated cut-off time, will be asked to board a safety boat.
At 8:30 am, all paddlers who successfully made it to Star Island will embark on the return paddle to Pirate’s Cove Beach.
Severe Weather Notice
Due to the complexities of organizing safety boats, the IOS Invitational is a rain or shine event that does not offer a rain date. However, the safety of our paddlers is our top priority. The “Go” or “No-Go” decision to host the paddle will be announced via email and Facebook by no later than 12:00 pm on Friday, August 12, 2022.
